Gaudi Box

When I was in my teenage years, I visited Barcelona and discovered the famous architect, Antoni Gaudi. I became fascinated by his work and the unique nature of all his projects, especially the organic style and use of natural forms.

This box was one of the first I ever made on my furniture making course, and is an homage to Gaudi. A central stained oak box has been encased in a carved lime wood box. This lime wood box has been gilt using the traditional water gilding method – applying gesso, gold leaf, and then burnishing.
